WHAT IS Global Social Business Competition?

Global Social Business Competition is a business competition for social businesses operating mainly in low- and middle-income countries. It is an online business competition aimed at increasing the impact of social enterprises by providing grants to the best organizations.

This competition will be held as a part of Deloitte Tohmatsu Group (Deloitte Japan)’s Global called WorldClass*, which aims to have a positive impact on a cumulative total of 100 million people worldwide by 2030 through contributions to Education, Skills and Opportunity. The competition is co-organized by Deloitte Tohmatsu Financial Advisory LLC (DTFA) , a member of Deloitte Tohmatsu Group and ARUN Seed.

Many people around the world, especially women, children, refugeesdisplaced people and other socially and economically vulnerable groups in low- and middle-income countries have been severely affected by the recent outbreak of COVID-19. This has also affected entrepreneurs working on social issues, making it difficult for them to provide services to these vulnerable groups of people.

We are inviting applications from those social entrepreneurs who support the vulnerable populations (women, children, refugees and displaced people, etc.) in low-and middle-income countries affected by COVID-19, through their business in one of the three areas of WorldClass scopes ; Education, Skills or Opportunity.

Deloitte Tohmatsu Group will provide total grants of up to 2.5 million yen (≒ US$ 21,000)**  and two to three companies will be chosen as winners of the competition. We are looking forward to your applications!

We are looking for social entrepreneurs who are providing innovative solutions in one of three areas: Education, Skills or Opportunity to support the vulnerable populations (women, children, refugees and displaced people, etc.) in low-and middle-income countries.

Eligibility Requirements
  • Have at least three years’ track record in the field
  • Be operating a profit-making business
  • Be incorporated with legal status (Any type of legal status acceptable)
  • Be providing innovative solutions tackling social issues in one of following three areas: Education, Skills or Opportunity

Types of organizations that are NOT eligible to apply:

  • Volunteer organizations
  • International aid organizations
  • Organizations whose main source of funding is subsidies or donations
  • Scholarships business and research organizations
  • Organization based on political or religious purposes
Judging Criteria
  • Social Impact*** – Magnitude of the impact on the vulnerable populations population especially women, children, refugees, or displaced people n areas of Education, Skills and Opportunity
  • Sustainability – Viability and longevity of the business model as well as the company
  • The team – Creativity, commitment and skill-sets brought together to the company by the team
  • Innovation – Potential and out-of-box ideas in areas of Education, Skills and Opportunity

3***It is desirable that the impact can be proven by the concrete number of customers and beneficiaries

Stellapps Technologies Private Limited.

Stellapps provides IoT solutions to the dairy sector in India facing problems of low productivity and uncertain value chain. Stellapps develops, sells and maintains IoT devices that can be installed in each stage of milk production, milk procurement and milk chilling. Their business is expected to have a greater social impact by increasing productivity, reducing production losses, providing a stable supply of high quality milk and stabilizing the income of smallholder farmers.
India is India’s platform through which homeowners can hire domestic helpers online. Their service-based technology enables underprivileged women to identify and access jobs remotely free of cost. Women apply for a job by giving a call to their toll-free number. After screening and selection, helps with safe relocation for migrant job seekers and access to bank accounts in collaboration with IDBI Bank. This eliminates middlemen or agents and protects the jobseeker from falling prey to exploitation.  11000 women recruited by have achieved financial independence and job security in an empathetic household.
